About Us
We are the 2nd Generation of the Crazy Country Club. The original Crazy Country Club was founded in 1948 by our owner’s father Lou Burdo. The original club was designed to be welcoming and entertaining to all. Our goal is that everyone can at least like something about our gimmicks, leave a little less stressed, and hopefully, with good memories and new friends.
History
Established in 1948
Brooklyn’s Crazy Country Club was part of the fabric and language we are proud to call our own. My father put this place in motion in 1948 as a small bar & grill and brought his own irreverent view of life, helped by a big dose of Coney Island and Burlesque/Vaudeville. He helped leave behind many great memories for his customers and his large family of friends. when he passed on, St. Peter said, “Look who’s here!” The response was, “WHO GIVES A SHIT!’ Thank you to all who have joined this group–

Experience An Unforgettable Time At The Crazy Country Club
The Second World War was still in the heart and soul of this country when a 27-year-old, from Brooklyn NY, took a gamble with a buddy and bought a small tavern. Located in a part of the borough he didn’t even know, it was in the suburbs named Dyker Heights. Directly across from a golf course and adjacent to the Poly Prep School.
After trying various operations, he split with his partner and utilized his greatest asset at the time, which was his wit. He put a sign outside the place that was intentionally misspelled, stating “We Have TeleWision.” People began to stop and point out the so-called mistake and thus began the Crazy Country Club. A few signs later boasted “Warm Beer & Lousy Food”, and word started to spread quickly about this wacky joint.
My father, Lou Burdo, was that wacky guy. He was very talented and amiable and surrounded himself with like-minded people. At that time, the 1950s Brooklynites were very much their own special kind of people. The Dodgers ruled Nathan’s in Coney Island was eating out, and the sense of humor was sarcasm at its best. The Country Club became well known for that in particular.
He intertwined laughs and insults and nobody ever got offended. The Country Club was also known for the gimmicks, signs, and all kinds of junk hanging from the ceiling.
The Country Club moved to a larger location in the early 60’s and remained a customer favorite for decades. The floor routines made it onto a ‘proper stage’ and the club essentially became the first real comedy club around. My father wrote and performed all the material in the show, which consisted of a 3 man act, with him as the head honcho.
The place always brought smiles to old timers, who remember it, and now I’m taking it to a new level, with my crew of oddballs and nudniks. A fun night is guaranteed, that’s for sure. Despite the tagline Warm Beer. Lousy Food, the food is delicious and the drinks are cold!
The Crazy Country Club is the only place in Hawley that serves dinner and take-out until midnight. There’s always something fun and crazy happening at the club, whether it’s stand-up comedians, live bands, or a themed party night.
